The share of e-commerce merchants worldwide accepting buy now, pay later (BNPL) as a payment method grew from ** percent in 2021 to a peak of ** percent in 2022, before declining to ** percent in 2023. By 2025, acceptance had partially recovered to ** percent, suggesting that BNPL adoption among merchants has stabilized at around one in three e-commerce merchants globally after its initial post-pandemic surge.
