A survey from 2024 of 10 countries found that those who menstruate often felt their pain was minimized or dismissed. Over eight in ten respondents said their concerns around their periods were not taken seriously. Female reproductive disorders like endometriosis often take years of visiting different providers before a patient receives a diagnosis. This is because their symptoms are often dismissed or there is simply not enough education on the disorder, despite it affecting an estimated 10 percent of reproductive-aged women, according to the World Health Organization.
