Out of 1,141 physicians who were explicitly listed as 'plastic surgeons' on Instagram in 2023, 28 percent were not board certified through the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). In fact, 22 percent had received no training in plastic surgery at all. With the rise of cosmetic procedure advertisements on social media, it is important that consumers verify the qualifications of the practitioners and not fall prey to false advertising.
