In the period between 2019 and 2021, there was an overall increase in sleep duration in United States. It was observed that the rate of U.S. adults who got the National Sleep Foundation’s recommended seven to nine hours of sleep on weekdays, increased from 38 percent in 2019 to 44 percent in 2021. The COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting lockdowns and restrictions that were put in place in the United States may have contributed to this increase in sleeping duration during this time.
This graph shows the changes in the average weekday sleep among adults in the United States between 2019 and 2021.
