After the coronavirus wave in spring 2021, the pandemic has been on a rise again in Finland since the end of 2021, with higher weekly numbers of new cases detected. The number of new COVID-19 cases was on the rise until April 2022, surpassing the previous peaks recorded during 2021. In comparison to other Nordic countries, Finland has been less severely affected by COVID-19 than its neighbors in terms of the . Although Finland has not applied a nationwide lockdown, other measures have been taken to contain the spread of the virus. At the moment, certain national and regional restrictions are in place to slow down further spread of COVID-19 in the country. The coronavirus vaccination rollout started in Finland on December 27, 2020 with the BioNTech–Pfizer vaccine. By June 2021, roughly 50 percent of the Finnish population had , while around 77 percent were fully vaccinated.
