**Card payments include credit cards, IC cards for transportation, electronic money cards for shopping, QUICPay/iD Card, debit cards, and other cards.
Respondents were asked about payment methods they normally use in stores.
In a survey conducted in Japan in December 2023, around ** percent of respondents stated that they normally used smartphones when paying in stores. A similar share of consumers reported using card-based payment methods, such as credit and debit cards, or electronic money smart cards.
