In fiscal year 2024, more than registrations of health foods with function claims were handed in at the Consumer Affairs Agency in Japan. New registrations grew fivefold compared to fiscal year 2015, when the "foods with function claims" label was introduced. Functional foods are labeled with claims based on scientific evidence for the effectiveness of the ingredients under the manufacturers' and distributors' own responsibilities.
