Direct state and local tax revenue generated from hotels increased to billion U.S. dollars in 2024. This was well over twenty billion U.S. dollars more than in 2020, when the hotel industry was hit hard by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Tax revenue from hotels was forecast to increase again in 2025 to around billion U.S. dollars.
