Renewable electricity capacity additions have increased significantly across successive five-year periods. Total additions rose from 993 gigawatts between 2013 and 2018 to 2,374 gigawatts between 2019 and 2024 and are expected to reach 4,605 gigawatts in 2025–2030. Solar PV accounted for the largest share of growth, increasing from 438 to 3,546 gigawatts over the periods, while wind and hydropower expanded more moderately.
