In this survey, the source asked respondents the following question: "Thinking about the future monarch, which of the following options would you prefer?" British opinions on the matter are divided and have changed little over time. One-third of respondents wanted Prince Charles, now King Charles III, to succeed Queen Elizabeth II on the throne, while one-third of the British surveyed wanted Prince William to directly ascend to the throne. Only 17 percent of respondents in 2022 thought that the Monarchy should end after Elizabeth II's reign.
After 70 years of reign, Queen Elizabeth II passed away on September 8, 2022. The crown was then passed to her son, King Charles III, formerly Prince Charles. In 2022, 35 percent of Britons stated that they did not know whether he would be a good king or not.
