Most liked current and former members of the British Royal Family 2026
Prince William is the most popular living member of the British Royal Family, according to a survey conducted among adults in Great Britain in April 2026. William's late grandmother and mother, Queen Elizabeth II, and Princess Diana were the most popular royals, liked by 81 percent and 77 percent of those surveyed, respectively. In contrast, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formely Prince Andrew, was by far the least-popular member of the Royal Family, with just threepercent of those surveyed having a positive opinion of him.Â
What have been the biggest swings in popularity?
In the last years of her reign, the Queen was generally viewed in a positive light by the British public, despite some significant swings in opinion for other members of the Royal Family. In particular, Prince Harry, previously once one of the most popular members of the Royal Family, has seen the share of Britons who view him favorably fall from 71 percent in 2019, to just 25 percent by May 2023. The current monarch, King Charles III, gradually became more popular during a similar time period, with 66 percent viewing him positively in February 2024, compared with 58 percent in 2020.Â
Support for the monarchy in Britain
While support for the monarchy has certainly had its ups and downs, it remains a very popular British institution, with approximately 62 percent of Britons supporting its continuation as of October 2025. This support is heavily correlated with age, as older age groups are far more likely to support the monarchy than younger ones. Only 40 percent of 18 to 24-year-old's supported the monarchy, compared with 82 percent of those aged 65 or over.
