Canadians are quite divided about the future of their country's political system. When surveyed in early April 2022, shortly before Queen Elizabeth II's 96th birthday, half of them believed that Canada should no longer be a constitutional monarchy for generations to come. Only about a quarter felt the opposite. While these proportions vary only slightly according to age, attachment to the monarchy is somewhat higher among Canadians over **.
