The use of the term "femicide" is not unanimously accepted among the French. While two-thirds of respondents in 2022 believe it is necessary to use this term, 21 percent of respondents do not find it necessary to use a specific term.
The term "femicide" refers to the intentional killing of a woman by her current or former partner. It is a relatively frequent phenomenon, hence the creation of a dedicated term. In 2020, 102 women died in France due to domestic violence.
