This statistic describes the opinions of French men and women in 2024 on gender stereotypes in certain situations. According to this study by the High Council for Equality between Women and Men, some gender stereotypes are shared by both men and women; for example, two-thirds of women and 73 percent of men believe it is a man's role to protect a woman. Other stereotypes, on the contrary, are mostly rejected by both sexes, such as the idea that a friendship between a man and a woman is impossible. The question of the woman's role within the household divides opinions between men and women. Thirty-nine percent of women consider it normal for a woman to stop working to take care of the children, compared to 46 percent of men. Finally, more than one in ten men believe that a woman who has been sexually assaulted can be partly responsible.
