Original question: Who do you think should have the greatest say in decisions about which medical treatments to pursue for seriously ill patients who are near the end of their lives?
A survey in 2023 found that, three in ten U.S. adults aged 45 and older thought the patient alone should decide about medical treatments at the end of their life (if they were capable). Meanwhile, nearly two-thirds said the patient's family should also be involved in end-of-life treatment decisions.
