*Shares of Medicare decedents (beneficiaries who died) is calculated as:
(number of beneficiaries in the group who both died and received hospice) divided by (total number of beneficiaries in the group who died)
This calculation compares how each group accesses hospice but does not compare size of the groups or health disparities or inequities factors which can impact those who access Medicare.

In 2022, among Medicare beneficiaries who were 85 years or older and died that year, six in ten had used hospice. On the other hand, among those younger than 65 years, only roughly one in four used hospice services.
