In 2023, Schengen countries issued almost *** million short-term visas. The Uniform type C visa allows the holder to travel within the Schengen Area up to ** days in any 180-day period. If specific conditions are met, the visa can be valid up to five years. However, those holding a Limited Territorial Validity (LTV) visa are only allowed to stay short-term in the country that issued the visa. France granted the largest number of Schengen C visas, **** million, ahead of Germany, with **** million visas, and Spain, with *** million. Switzerland authorized ** Schengen visas, besides not being a member of the European Union. The largest number of Uniform C visas were granted to Chinese citizens.
