‘Hardline’ eurosceptic parties, covers parties that were assessed to be opposed or strongly opposed to EU integration (a score of less than 2.5 on EU position). The second category, all eurosceptic parties, is a wider category and includes parties that are somewhat opposed as well as those that are opposed or strongly opposed (i.e. all parties with a score of less than 3.5 on EU position).

The vote share of eurosceptic parties in national elections has risen across Europe since the turn of the millennium. Following the onset of the Eurozone crisis in the early 2010s, eurosceptic parties saw a surge in support, rising from **** percent of all votes cast in national parliamentary elections in 2012 to consistently over ** percent after 2013. This trend of rising Euroscepticism has continued into the , as the share of all eurosceptic parties reached a new high of **** percent in 2022, although this was made up of only **** percent hardline eurosceptic parties - that is, parties that outright state they would want their country to leave the EU or to dismantle the EU in its current form.
