The films that were part of the study were released by; A24, Amazon Studios, AppleTV+, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal, Netflix, Paramount Global, Sony Pictures Entertainment, The Walt Disney Company, and Warner Bros. Discovery.

While LGBTQ-inclusion on TV has certainly improved compared to previous decades, how has LGBTQ-inclusion in major movies fared? According to a study by GLAAD of the ten film studio distributors that had the highest theatrical grosses released in 2023, about one third (27.3 percent) of the 100 films released by these studios that year had an LGBTQ character, while 72.7 percent did not.
