In 2024, EU-ETS freely allocated allowances for all stationary installations totaled *** million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e) – a slight decrease in comparison to the previous year. The supply of allowances allocated for free has been falling each year since the second trading period ended in 2012. The EU Emissions Trading System is a carbon credit market used to mitigate climate change, and one of the tools to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
