In 2023, the total number of European Union Aviation Allowances (EUAA) allocated under the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) was **** million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e). Most of the EU ETS aviation allowances were freely allocated. One allowance – or carbon credit – gives the holder the right to emit *** metric ton of carbon dioxide or its equivalent. Emissions from aviation have been included in the EU-ETS since 2012.
