The source adds: 'Sectors based on the EU ETS classification. Metallurgy: metal ore roasting or sintering, production of pig iron or steel, production or processing of ferrous & non-ferrous metals, production of primary & secondary aluminum ; cement: production of cement clinker, lime or calcination of dolomite/magnesite, ceramics, mineral wool ; chemicals: production of nitric acid, adipic acid, glyoxal and glyoxylic acid, ammonia, bulk chemicals, soda ash and sodium bicarbonate, production of carbon black, hydrogen or synthesis gas ; paper: production of gypsum or plasterboard, pulp, paper or cardboard ; other: capture of greenhouse gases, activity opted-in under Art. 24.'
All stationary installations excludes combustion.

In 2020, metallurgy was the sector with the highest allowance surplus on the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), at ** percent of the sector's verified emissions. Aviation, other process emissions, paper process emissions and all stationary installations presented an allowance surplus, while all other sectors recorded an allowance deficit. The EU Emissions Trading System is a carbon credit market used to mitigate climate change, and one of the tools to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
