European Union Emissions Trading System - Statistics & Facts
The European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) has helped cut emissions from sectors covered by the scheme in half since its launch in 2005. It has also generated more than 200 billion U.S. dollars in auction revenues since 2013. One of the key tools in the European Union’s climate strategy, the EU ETS incentivizes companies to reduce climate pollution by putting a price on carbon dioxide (CO₂). It is now the world’s most valuable carbon market by far, and is set to continue playing an integral role in the EU’s decarbonization efforts going forward.
