REPowerEU is the European Commission's plan to end reliance on Russian fossil fuels by 2030. It was proposed in May 2022.
Fit for 55 is a package of policy initiatives aimed at reducing the European Union's net greenhouse gas emissions by 55 percent by 2030. The package was proposed in July 2021.

The European Commission's REPowerEU energy plan of May 2022 has further tightened the existing Fit for 55 clean energy target introduced in July 2021. The REPowerEU plan, which was introduced following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, aims at increasing the share of renewable energy sources (RES) in final energy consumption to ** percent. In comparison, the Fit for 55 initiative was aimed at raising the RES share to only ** percent.
