According to a survey conducted in February 2021 in Japan, more than half of respondents stated that they frequently take a reusable bag with them even if they did not plan to go shopping. Only *** percent of respondents stated that they do not own a reusable shopping bag.
Following a change in regulations to reduce plastic waste in July 2020, retailers in Japan started to charge customers a mandatory fee for plastic bags.
