Social security in Thailand - statistics & facts
Thailand's Social Security Scheme covers nearly 24.7 million eligible residents. In 2024, the cumulative value of the Social Security Fund (SSF) amounted to over 2.65 trillion Thai baht. A variety of benefits, such as disability, unemployment, sickness, and old-age pensions, are offered by the system to shield employees from the monetary risks connected to life events like illness or unemployment. The system, regulated by the 2015 Social Security Act, is supported by government funding, and business and employee contributions. While the system serves both Thai and migrant workers, operational issues, particularly concerning the fund management and recent economic crises, have prompted worries about its long-term viability and effectiveness.
