This statistic shows the answers to a survey question asking consumers in the Netherlands if they made their online purchases from 2014 to 2018 either from a domestic e-commerce retailer or from a web shop located in a foreign country. As of 2018, approximately ** percent of the respondents indicated they would only do their online shopping from a domestic online retailer. This is a decrease when compared to 2016, when ** percent of the respondents indicated to do so.
Unlike many other countries in Europe, Amazon is not active in the Netherlands. Instead, the e-commerce company uses a partially translated version of their German website to appeal to the Dutch audience. Within the Netherlands, Bol.com and Coolblue are the leading webshops, with revenues reaching respectively **** billion euros and *** million euros in 2017.
