Online transactions with iDEAL kept on growing in the Netherlands in 2025, reaching **** billion payments and picking up in growth after a slowdown in 2022. iDEAL is an interbank system, local to the Dutch market, allowing shoppers to use their bank account for online purchases. It is covered by all major Dutch consumer banks. In 2006, the number reached approximately *** million payments. Subsequently, this increased to approximately *** million in 2018. One preferred way of conducting money transfers in Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands is by card. In 2016, Luxembourg had approximately ***card payments per capita compared to *** in Belgium and *** in the Netherlands.
