This survey shows the percent distribution of the current professional status among U.S. physicians in 2018. Some 31.4 percent of surveyed physicians were practice owners, partners, or associates. Many physicians in the United States are changing from an independent practice owner to an employee. Most continue to experience high pressures to keep up with demands for their services and suggest that new physicians must be trained to prevent shortages.
