Post-residency physicians who provide at least 20 hours of patient care per week, not employed by the federal government, and practice in one of the 50 states or the District of Columbia.
The latest survey was conducted in September-November 2022 and the final data included 3500 physicians with a response rate of 31 percent.
In 2022, only around ** percent of physicians in the U.S. reported being owners, marking a steady decline from ** percent a decade ago. Conversely, roughly ** percent of physicians were working as employees in 2022, showing an increase from ** percent in 2012.
