This survey displays the top ten sources for reported elderly abuse in the United States as of 2003. During this year, about 5.5 percent of elderly abuse reports originated from long term care facility staff. Neglect can be defined as the refusal or failure to fulfill one's obligations to an elderly person and includes paying for necessary home care services. Many cases of elderly abuse remain unreported and thus, may be massively underestimated.
