This statistic is based on about 68,150 paid, regulated long-term care services providers serving about 7.3 million people in the United States. Long-term care services were provided by 4,100 adult day services centers, 11,400 home health agencies, 5,200 hospices, 1,200 inpatient rehabilitation facilities, 350 long-term care hospitals, 15,600 nursing homes, and 28,900 assisted living and similar residential care communities.

Citation formats

While most long-term care services providers were found in the South of the United States, residential care community (assisted living) providers were largely found in the West. Meanwhile, adult day services center and hospice providers were both equally represented in the South and the West. Nursing homes providers were also equally spread across the Midwest and the South of the U.S.

Long-term care services account for a variety of services such as health, personal care, and supportive services dedicated to older people and adults with a limited capacity for self-care in cases such as injury or mental disability.
