This statistic depicts the distribution of abuse complaints in U.S. board and care facilities as of 2010. Some 15 percent of complaints were due to gross neglect. It has been estimated a plethora of abuse within nursing homes goes undetected and unreported. About 1 in 3 nursing homes have been cited for violations that have potentially caused or caused harm to a resident.
