This statistic is based on about 68,150 paid, regulated long-term care services providers serving about 7.3 million people in the United States. Long-term care services were provided by 4,100 adult day services centers, 11,400 home health agencies, 5,200 hospices, 1,200 inpatient rehabilitation facilities, 350 long-term care hospitals, 15,600 nursing homes, and 28,900 assisted living and similar residential care communities.

In the United States, adult day center users were disproportionately more ethnically and racially diverse than the general population over 65 years in 2022. There was also a disproportionately **** share of non-Hispanic Black patients in long-term care (LTC) hospitals. Meanwhile, White, non-Hispanic residents dominated assisted living communities, more so than other LTC services.
