Supplementary notes
CIS: Commonwealth of Independent States. Figures were calculated manually according to the values for Europe and CIS that were provided by the source.
This report was previously published by BP. Figures refer to commercially traded fuels, including modern renewables used to generate electricity.
This statistic was compiled using several releases of the publication. Figures were restated based on the latest edition of the report.
Primary energy supply in Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) remained relatively stable in 2024, reaching **exajoules. This figure represents a slight increase from the previous year's supply, reflecting a pattern of minimal fluctuation over the past two decades. Fossil fuels still dominate the energy landscape in the region, having accounted for over ** percent of Europe and CIS’ primary energy mix in 2023.
China remained the largest primary energy supplier globally, accounting for percent of the global consumption in 2024. This underscores the significant role that this emerging economy plays in shaping global energy trends together with the United States and the European Union. However, this country’s consumption of energy from fossil fuels has been increasing over the past few years.
