Covers commercial solid fuels (bituminous coal/anthracite, lignite/sub-bituminous coal, and other commercial solid fuels), excluding coal converted to liquid or gaseous fuels but including coal used in transformation processes.
Oil figures cover inland demand plus international aviation and marine bunkers and refinery fuel/loss, excluding biogasoline and biodiesel but including coal- and gas-derived products.
Natural gas figures exclude gas converted to liquid fuels but include coal derivatives and gas consumed in Gas-to-Liquids transformation.
Differences between consumption and production figures across all three fuels reflect stock changes and unavoidable disparities in the definition, measurement, or conversion of supply and demand data.
Values are measured as a percentage of the total primary energy, using the substitution method.Â

Global fossil fuel share in energy consumption 2024, by country
There are three countries in the world with a fossil fuel consumption share of over **** percent of the total primary energy consumption. In Turkmenistan, Trinidad and Tobago, and Kuwait fossil fuels account for nearly all primary energy consumed. By comparison, Iceland has the lowest consumption shares from the available data at some percent.
