Global nuclear energy - statistics & facts
There has been no steady increase in the world's nuclear energy generation over the past two decades. In fact, the share of nuclear power in global electricity generation hit its lowest value since the beginning of the century in 2024. However, nuclear energy capacity has grown by over 20 gigawatts since the 2000s. Only two countries in the world generate most of their electricity from nuclear sources: France and Slovakia, both located in Europe. The United States and China produced only around 20 and five percent of their power from nuclear plants, respectively, despite having the largest nuclear energy production capacity in the world.
