This statistic represents the amounts of grants and loans from the European recovery plan that EU member states are to receive starting in 2024, in billions of euros. The European recovery plan was designed to address the economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by the war in Ukraine, in order to eliminate reliance on gas, oil, and coal from Russia by 2027. Many member states have received funds from the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF*), the main instrument of the European plan.
Regarding grants, Spain is the largest beneficiary of the RRF. Italy benefits from **** billion euros, and France from **** billion euros. Concerning loans, each member state could submit a request until ***, for an amount that the borrowing member state must fully repay. Italy will have to repay billion euros, and Spain **** billion euros. Italy is therefore the main beneficiary of the European recovery plan, with nearly two-thirds of it in loans.
