This study focuses on the opinion of inhabitants of certain French-speaking countries. Only inhabitants from the following countries were surveyed: Algeria, Benin, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Lebanon, Madagascar, Morocco, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and Chad.

For the vast majority of respondents, French is primarily a foreign language, as it is a native language for only * percent of respondents. Although most respondents consider French an important, international, and essential language, it also emerges that the French language is still seen as "the language of the colonizer" and "the language of the elites."
