In 2021, a survey was conducted to determine the proportion of the population that is French-speaking in 15 African countries. In several countries, such as Congo, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Cameroon, and Gabon, almost 90 percent of the population reported being French-speaking. Conversely, in Burkina Faso and Senegal, countries still considered French-speaking, less than 60 percent of the population reported speaking French in 2021.
