As of January 2026, President Trump imposed a ** percent reciprocal IEEPA tariff on imports from China, the United States’ largest import partner. The European Union faced a ** percent rate, while imports from Mexico and Canada were subject to tariffs of ** percent and ** percent, respectively.
In April 2025, the United States imposed sweeping new tariffs on imports. The president invoked the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to establish a universal 10 percent duty and higher country‑specific ‘reciprocal’ tariffs. Separately, higher Section 232 tariffs on commodities such as steel and aluminum, as well as automobiles, semiconductors, and pharmaceuticals, were extended or proposed, in some cases in addition to the new reciprocal duties.
