This statistic depicts the estimated gap between retirees and practicing doctors in Italy between 2014 and 2023, by category. According to data, in all the considered categories the number of physicians retiring was expected to be much higher than the number of doctors starting to practice medicine. More specifically, the gap was forecasted to be particularly relevant for pediatricians and for physicians specialized in internal medicine. The only exception to this trend was represented by radiology. Indeed, in this field the number of practicing professionals was expected to overrate the one of retirees.
