In contrast, significantly less indicated that financial constraints prevent them from eating healthily. New answer options in this survey iteration included among others, how many consumers enjoy good food.

Regularly consumed groceries 

In 2024, around  of consumers surveyed in the EU-27 countries indicated that dairy products were a regular part of their diet. However, fruits and vegetables emerged as the most frequently consumed foods among respondents. The volume of vegetables sold in the EU food market is projected to steadily grow between 2024 and 2029, with an overall increase of just under * billion kilograms. The ongoing trend reflects a consistent rise in vegetable consumption over recent years.

Food intolerances in the EU

In 2023, food intolerances were reported by about ** percent of EU-27 consumers aged 18 to 19, indicating a notable occurrence among younger adults. In contrast, only percent of respondents aged 60 to 64 reported similar intolerances, highlighting a significant lower count in such dietary issues among older adults. Many consumers who eat a gluten-free diet have an intolerance, sometimes due to celiac disease. Within the EU, surveyed consumers in Switzerland were the most likely to be on a gluten-free diet. Globally, the United Arab Emirates topped the list for gluten-free consumers.
