There was broad agreement between consumers from France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom in 2023 about how a fashion item should be manufactured to protect the environment and therefore be classed as sustainable. The most popular response in of the four countries was that a fashion product should be manufactured by a company that does not use chemicals which are toxic for the skin or the environment. The exception was the **, where the highest share of respondents said that the company should reduce or reprocess its waste.
