As of 2023, the United Kindgom had a remaining carbon budget of about *** billion metric tons of carbon dioxide (GtCOâ‚‚), in order for the world to be on track to limiting global warming to *** degrees Celsius. The country's estimated emissions from active and planned oil and gas fields stood below this value, at around *** GtCOâ‚‚. Nevertheless, emissions including undeveloped and undiscovered oil and gas fields – as well as active and planned fields – were estimated at some *** GtCOâ‚‚, more than double the UK's remaining carbon budget.
