The following outlets were analyzed: Izvestiya, RIA Novosti, TASS, Interfax, Rossiyskaya Gazeta, Kommersant, Vedomosti, RBC, Gazeta. ru, RT, Lenta, Regnum, Nezavisimaya Gazeta, and Vzglyad.

Citation formats

Columns and op-eds containing the pro-Kremlin narrative that Russia has a moral obligation to do something in the Donbas region gathered approximately 200 reactions, comments, and shares on average on Facebook in the 70 days prior to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, or from December 16, 2021 to February 24, 2022. Furthermore, online articles in the interview format that featured the same narrative had over 136 engagements on average. Furthermore, among the articles mentioning that Russia was seeking peace, interviews were the type most interacted with on Facebook.
