The value of the stock of foreign direct investment in the European Union in 2024 was 12.6 trillion U.S. dollars - a substantial increase compared to the total in the 2019, which was 10.2 trillion U.S. dollars. The increase in FDI during 2023 and 2024 was closely related to Europe's economic recovery after the decline caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, with many European countries experiencing stagnant growth or a recession during the year.Â
