The value of the European Union's foreign direct investment outward stock was 14.6 trillion U.S. dollars in 2024. While this amount marks a strong increase since 2005, when FDI stock was worth only 3 trillion U.S. dollars, the negative outward FDI flows from the EU since 2021 mean that the total stock of the EU's outward FDI in fact declined by almost a trillion Euros between 2021 and 2023.
