In 2020, around *** products certified as "foods for specified health foods" in Japan were products that were re-approved after the previous certification expired. In contrast, only *** product received the certification as a "Qualified FOSHU", which indicates health foods that promote the effectiveness of their ingredients to a certain degree but based on a limited scientific basis.
The regular FOSHU label designates food products with scientifically recognized health-promoting effects. Products bearing FOSHU labels received the government's approval to be promoted with health claims.
