Downloads of Klarna in Europe far exceeded those of more domestic fintech initiatives on buy now, pay later in 2023. For instance, the combined downloads from UK-based Clearpay (Afterpay's European brand) and Laybuy were around times less than that of Sweden's BNPL provider. Some important notes on the figures shown here: The numbers come from an app tracking website, aiming to create a ranking on the most popular buy now, pay later apps on the European continent. To do so, it provided figures for different apps that only provide BNPL and are active within Europe, several of which are local fintechs. Twisto, for instance, is a buy now, pay later option developed within Poland.
